False Identity of Goodness
Dear Jesus,
We come to you today to pray for people who may look good on the outside, but their souls are neglected. People who’ve fallen into the enemy’s trap is the false identity of goodness. You’ve probably heard it said that people are “good” and therefore they deserve Heaven. They might be benevolent, generous, with plenty of possessions, status, jobs, homes, vacation spots, perfect physique, and fancy clothing. We pray for those who believe these are the things they need in this life and for eternity.
We pray for believers who live righteous lives; pay their taxes, tithe to the local church, and even will give a little extra to that special project, but whose hearts are far from you, God. They take pride in being a good person and inwardly look down on others that have lives of sins that are more evident in outward appearance. We pray for humility, and the reality of the gospel to be realized. That you love all sinners--even those who fail to see their own sin.
Lord God, turn our hearts, minds, and souls back to you. Reveal this trap from the enemy of people taking pride in their success and goodness. Lord Jesus, help all people see that YOU are the only way to salvation. We can’t be good enough in our own efforts. It is the blood of Jesus that cleanses souls. Humble hearts filled with pride and judgement. Help us be like the worst of sinners who recognize their shortcomings so that we may draw near to you again. Bring us to our knees to repent of our false securities of this world. Renew our belief that you are the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through you.
Thank you Lord Jesus for your saving grace.
Amen
